Who should you contact?
When your child is in danger, you need to know who to call.
Talking to the right person first can save time.
It can also save your child.
Here are some people who can help you keep your child safe.
Keep these numbers next to the telephone.
Who to Contact When to Contact
Poison Control Center If your child eats or drinks something that is not food.
-too much medicine
-too many vitamins
-paint
-cleaning products
-poisons
Have the package with you when you call.
911 Emergency Line Fire, police, or medical emergency. If your community has a 911 line, use it ONLY for emergencies.
-burglars
-fire
-your child stops breathing
-think someone is having a heart attack
Family doctor or health clinic Illness or injury that is NOT an emergency
-cold
-bad cough
-headache that won't go away
-sprained ankle
Animal Control Department If you see stray animals that may be a problem. If your community has no Animal Control Department call the police.
Police Department Call your local police department to report non-emergency traffic accidents and unlawful activities.
-fender bender (No injuries)
-breaking windows
Fire Department Call the Fire Department for fire emergencies if your community does not have a 911 line.
